Belvidere is the county seat of Boone County, located just east of Rockford along I‑90. The city combines a historic downtown with riverfront parks along the Kishwaukee River and a strong community spirit, highlighted every August by the Boone County Fair.

Downtown's Buchanan and State Streets are home to local pubs, a craft brewery, an Italian panini spot, and small shops, and the Belvidere Park District and Family YMCA keep families busy year round.
